Hi, I’m Nannette Schultz, the Director of Education at Corvallis Tutoring. I am a mother of four, now adult, children who all have unique and diverse learning styles. I started my teaching career as a preschool teacher when my children were young which I did for about 10 years. I have 35 units in Early Childhood Education. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Master’s Degree in English Literature, and a Writing Composition Teaching Certificate.
As my children got older, I became interested in teaching older students. Eventually, I settled in on the idea of teaching at the freshman college level. As a graduate student, I started my career in tutoring back in 2005. Although I very much enjoy teaching at the college level, I never forgot my first love which was working with children.
Since 2005, I have been continuously tutoring students in all areas of language arts and also in basic math. I have taught hundreds of children how to read using a basic phonetic approach. I have worked with students with writing at all ages from basic printing at the kindergarten level through essay writing and everything in between. I believe the most effective tutoring occurs in settings where the student feels the most comfortable and when the tutor adapts their teaching style to the learning style of the individual learner.
In addition to being an experienced adjunct part-time professor at various community colleges, private colleges, UC Davis, and online for Southern New Hampshire University, I have also served as Substitute K through 12 teacher in 6 school districts in California and 3 school districts in Oregon. Most recently I have been a substitute teacher in the Corvallis School District, the Albany School District, and the Salem-Keizer School District. I have tutored all ages in various settings including at colleges and K through 12 schools, in corporate centers, and for private companies in home and online.
I am confident that as the Head Tutor at Corvallis Tutoring and the tutors that I personally select will be able to help every student gain confidence as they see their own skills improve.
